So many people, though, accept radiometric dating as little-understood, yet (somehow) factual. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin and is now believed to be the main process that brings about evolution.\" (<em>Bing<\/em>)<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one has a problem with the concepts of adaptation and natural selection. Together, they combine in what is called <em><strong>microevolution<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">microevolution = \"evolutionary change within a species or small group of organisms, especially over a short period\"<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem comes in when we talk about <em><strong>macroevolution<\/strong>. <\/em>That\u2019s really the point of contention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">macroevolution = \"evolution that results in relatively large and complex changes (as in species formation).\" (<em>Mirriam-Webster<\/em>)<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-yellow-background-color wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/evolution.berkeley.edu\/evolibrary\/article\/0_0_0\/evo_48\">Evolutionary theory asserts that <em>microevolution <\/em>+ millions of years = <em>macroevolution<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where the bizarre and ridiculous claims come from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cWhales, like all mammals, evolved from reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Thus, over hundreds of millions they left the sea, grew legs, grew fur, and evolved lungs. Then they returned to the sea, lost their legs and fur, but kept their lungs.\u201d<\/p><cite>Proof-of-Evolution.com<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cArchaeopteryx seemed to emerge fully fledged with the characteristics of modern birds,\u201d said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/earthsciences\/people\/mike-j-benton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michael\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/earthsciences\/people\/mike-j-benton\/\">Benton<\/a>, a paleontologist at the University of Bristol in England\u2026 To explain this miraculous metamorphosis, scientists evoked a theory often referred to as \u201c<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">hopeful monsters.<\/span>\u201d According to this idea, major evolutionary leaps require large-scale genetic changes that are qualitatively different from the routine modifications within a species.\u201d<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/how-dinosaurs-shrank-and-became-birds\/\">Scientific American<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cCharles <strong>Darwin<\/strong> believed that <strong>evolution was a slow and gradual process<\/strong>\u2026\u00a0 Darwin assumed that if evolution is gradual then there should be a\u00a0record in fossils of small incremental change within a species.\u00a0 But in many cases, Darwin, and scientists today, are unable to find most of these intermediate forms\u2026\u00a0However in 1972, evolutionary scientists Stephen Jay Gould and Niles Eldredge proposed another explanation for the numerous gaps in the fossil record\u2026 They termed this mode of evolution \u2018<strong>punctuated equilibrium<\/strong>.\u2019 This means that species are generally morpholgically stable, changing little for millions of years.\u00a0 This leisurely pace is \u2018punctuated\u2019 by a rapid burst of change that results in a new species.\u00a0 According to this idea, the changes leading to a new species don\u2019t usually occur from slow incremental change\u2026\u201d<\/p><cite>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/perkins\/evolution\/darwin\/?Page=record\/plas.html&amp;SM=record\/recordmenu.html\">Evolution 101<\/a>,\u201d University of Vermont<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In other words, Darwin was wrong, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nope!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThe <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">modern<\/span> theory of evolution\u2014little more than a contemporary restatement of basic Darwinism\u2014does not require gradual change. In fact, the operation of Darwinian processes should yield exactly what we see in the fossil record. . . . Our model is fully consistent with Darwin\u2019s central postulate that natural selection controls evolutionary change. Natural selection requires continuity and intermediacy, for selection must create the fit by steadily increasing the frequency of favorable variants. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">It does not require exceedingly slow and gradual transformation of entire populations<\/span>.<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/ncse.ngo\/origin-species-punctuated-equilibria\">Stephen Jay Gould<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But isn\u2019t that completely in contradiction to what Darwin said?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThe more I work, the more I feel convinced that it is by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">accumulation of such extremely slight variations<\/span> that new species arise\u201d<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www.macroevolution.net\/darwins-emphasis-on-gradualism.html\">Charles Darwin<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">But they just can\u2019t admit being wrong!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s be real. For a long time now, many people\u2013<em><strong>including many of us<\/strong>\u2014<\/em>have been capitulating to Evolution, surrendering our religious convictions in favor of \u201cexpert\u201d testimony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-background has-medium-font-size has-dark-red-color has-bright-red-background-color wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Isn\u2019t it time to question that stance, to recognize <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the inadequacy<\/span> of Science as an epistemological position\u2013as the basis for your worldview?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.comwp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/no-compromise.jpg?resize=381%2C381&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12937\" width=\"381\" height=\"381\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/no-compromise.jpg?w=220&amp;ssl=1 220w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/no-compromise.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/no-compromise.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 381px) 85vw, 381px\" \/><figcaption>Are we done compromising?<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scientific \u201cexperts\u201d are just people, like you and me. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.sciencemag.org\/sciencecareers\/2012\/07\/difficult-ethic.html\">They are not <em>above the fray<\/em> of the <em>dog-eat-dog <\/em>aspects of eating every day<\/a>. They are tempted in all the ways that other people are. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cToday\u2019s intense competition greatly increases incentive to produce the maximum number of publications and to have one\u2019s name on as many papers as possible. This in turn produces temptation to engage in a number of questionable practices, such as \u2018beautifying\u2019 data and developing biased research designs in order to produce desirable results\u2026\u201d<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.sciencemag.org\/sciencecareers\/2012\/07\/difficult-ethic.html\">American Association for the Advancement of Science<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We found another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/collections\/bihhaafahc\">website<\/a> filled with clever ideas for ascertaining tenure and grant money\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consider, in closing, the following quotes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-text-align-left has-yellow-background-color wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>\u201cIt is repeatedly said that science is intolerant of theories without data and assertions without adequate evidence. But no serious student of epistemology any longer takes the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">naive<\/span> view of science as a process of Baconian induction from theoretically unorganized observations<\/strong>\u2026<\/em> (Richard Lewontin, eminent evolutionary geneticist and Harvard professor)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201c<\/em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">There can be no observations without an immense apparatus of preexisting theory<\/span><\/strong><em><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-dark-red-color\">.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p><cite>Richard Lewontin <\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-text-align-left has-yellow-background-color wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Before sense experiences become \u2018observations,\u2019 we need a theoretical question, and what counts as a relevant observation depends upon a theoretical frame into which it is to be placed. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Repeatable observations that do not fit into an existing frame have a way of disappearing from view, and the experiments that produced them are not revisited<\/span>.\u201d<\/strong> (from \u201cBillions and Billions of Demons,\u201d Richard Lewontin, <em>New York Review of Book<\/em>, January 9, 1997)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cFor an institution to explain the world so as to make the world legitimate, it must possess several features. First, the institution as a whole must <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">appear<\/span> to derive from sources outside of ordinary human social struggle. It must not <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">seem<\/span> to be the creation of political, economic, or social forces, but to descend into society from a supra-human source. Second, the ideas, pronouncements, rules, and results of the institution\u2019s activity must have a validity and a transcendent truth that goes beyond any possibility of human compromise or human error. Its explanations and pronouncements must <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">seem<\/span> to be true in an absolute sense and to derive somehow from an absolute source. They must be true for all time and all place. And finally, the institution must have a certain <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mystical and veiled <\/span>quality so that its innermost operation is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not completely transparent <\/span>to everyone. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">It must have an esoteric language,<\/span> which needs to be explained to the ordinary person by those who are especially knowledgeable and who can intervene between everyday life and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">mysterious <\/span>sources of understanding and knowledge.\u201d<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/bevets.com\/equotesl3.htm\">Richard Lewontin<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It never issues a retraction, never apologizes, no matter how wrong the \u201cexperts\u201d turn out to be.
