{"id":13796,"date":"2025-11-05T14:35:44","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T14:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/?p=13796"},"modified":"2025-11-05T14:35:46","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T14:35:46","slug":"a-post-election-christian-strategy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/05\/a-post-election-christian-strategy\/","title":{"rendered":"A Post-Election Christian Strategy"},"content":{"rendered":"<body><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em>Let\u2019s talk about the story of David &amp; Goliath.<\/em><\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1 Samuel 17:1<\/span> <\/strong><\/p><p>The Philistines started the trouble by \u201cgathering their armies together\u201d on Israel\u2019s land \u2013 on a small mountain (lower than Liberty Mountain \u2013 here in Lynchburg, VA \u2013 about 1000 feet).\u00a0 So, <strong><em>they started it<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image.png?resize=720%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13797\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image.png?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image.png?resize=300%2C267&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thinkingaccuratelyeducation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image.png?resize=400%2C356&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><p><\/p><p>Then \u2013 in response \u2013 Israel\u2019s king, Saul and his army gathered on a similar-sized mountain. A wide valley laid between the two armies.<\/p><ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol><p>400 years or so years ago (in the time of Joshua), the Israelites had been in a similar situation, and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">that time God gave them <em>a winning strategy<\/em><\/span>, but this time, they didn\u2019t check with God.<\/p><p>So they set up camps at the two ends of this valley. You\u2019ve seen pictures of these kinds of military camps with rows of little tents (I think I remember looking down on one in one of the Lord of the Rings movies), with campfires here and there. This probably went on for some time \u2013 days, maybe even weeks; it was a stalemate.\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol><p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1 Samuel 17:4<\/span><\/strong><\/p><p>One day, a gigantic man, wearing the best armor, and carrying the best weapons, struts out into the valley. And he begins to call out to Saul\u2019s army in a loud voice, basically challenging King Saul to a duel. But Paul does not come.<\/p><p>He is afraid (my Bible says \u201c<em>dismayed and greatly afraid<\/em>\u201c).<\/p><p>From Goliath\u2019s perspective the Israelites were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no different<\/span> than the Philistines. Both had gods\u2026 and both were <em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">idols<\/span><\/strong><\/em>.<\/p><p>And Goliath <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">knew<\/span><\/strong> he was a giant. But he didn\u2019t know about the Israelites\u2019 \u201csuperpower,\u201d and unfortunately, it seems that the Israelites had, over the years, forgotten about it too.<\/p><ol start=\"5\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol><p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Every born-again Christian has this same superpower\u2026\u00a0 You see, \u201cGod has specifically chosen the weak things of this world so that He can use us to shame those who think are strong.\u201d<\/p><p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014<\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>1 Samuel 17:17-18<\/strong><\/p><p>The story takes a different turn. I almost said unexpected but it really wasn\u2019t, because in verse 15 it mentions that a young guy named David, \u201cOccasionally went and returned from Saul to feed his father\u2019s sheep at Bethlehem.\u201d<\/p><p>That\u2019s talking about how, in the previous chapter, David got a part-time job singing for King Saul.<\/p><p>He got that job because of someone\u2019s recommendation. It sounds like that person knew a lot about David.\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"9\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol><blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cLook, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><p><strong>Can you imagine getting a job recommendation like that?<\/strong><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>His father <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">trusted him<\/span> to take food to his older brothers who were soldiers in Saul\u2019s army, and to find out how they were.<\/li><\/ul><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>He was the youngest brother and he normally <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">took care<\/span> of his father\u2019s sheep. \u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2013<\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1 Samuel 17:20 and 22<\/span><\/strong> <\/p><p>Despite his age, the Bible tells us that he:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rose early<\/span> in the morning.<\/li>\n\n<li>Left the sheep with <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a keeper<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n<li>Took the things and went <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">as Jesse had commanded him<\/span>.<\/li>\n\n<li>And left the supplies in the hand of the supply <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">keeper<\/span> <em>before<\/em> he ran to greet his brothers.<\/li><\/ol><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><em>God did not just pick David\u2019s name out of a hat<\/em>.<\/strong> <\/p><p>He knew that even at that age,\u00a0 \u201cDavid was a man after God\u2019s own heart.\u201d Even though David made many mistakes in his life, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">he cared very much about doing things God\u2019s way<\/span><\/strong>. And it <em>broke his heart<\/em> when he didn\u2019t.<\/p><p>And God rewarded him for that.<\/p><p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2013<\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">1 Samuel 17:26<\/span><\/strong><\/p><p>Davis overhears a conversation among the soldiers and says, \u201c<em>Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God<\/em>?\u201d He <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">sincerely believes<\/span><\/strong> that it is <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">WRONG<\/span><\/strong> for the soldiers to listen to Goliath anymore!<strong> <\/strong>For Him to be allowed to keep mocking God!<strong> <\/strong><\/p><p>And I think you know the rest of the story.<\/p><p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong><em>The point though is that David\u2019s story didn\u2019t happen because he was any different than us.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>He wasn\u2019t.<\/p><p>He knew God. He knew the Bible. And <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">he made it his business<\/span> to obey it. And so can we.\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"15\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol><p>Questions:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1 Samuel 17:2 \u2013 When the Philistines \u201cgathered their armies for battle,\u201d why did Saul\u2019s army \u201cencamp\u201d on the next hill? Why didn\u2019t they just charge? What else could they have done?<\/li>\n\n<li>1 Samuel 17:8-11 \u2013 When Saul and his army heard Goliath\u2019s challenge, why did they become \u201cdismayed\u201d and \u201cgreatly afraid?\u201d What was their mistake?<\/li>\n\n<li>1 Samuel 17:12 \u2013 How old was David? Give evidence to support your answer.<\/li>\n\n<li>1 Samuel 17:25-30 \u2013 What was David\u2019s motivation for facing Goliath?<\/li><\/ol><p>Life Application Question<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It\u2019s easy to look at the story of David and Goliath and think of it as one sudden and amazing single day of glory that most of us can never attain.
